{"id":3336,"date":"2014-01-21T12:23:48","date_gmt":"2014-01-21T12:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.nationaldebtrelief.co.uk\/debt-articles\/?p=3336"},"modified":"2019-03-07T12:36:35","modified_gmt":"2019-03-07T12:36:35","slug":"iva-and-secured-debt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nationaldebtrelief.co.uk\/debt-articles\/iva-and-secured-debt\/","title":{"rendered":"IVA and Secured Debt"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Most of us these days have several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaldebtrelief.co.uk\/debt-help\/dro.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">different types of debt<\/a>,  all of which make us more likely to find ourselves in a situation where  we can no longer manage them.\u00a0There are a number of measures that can  help people who are <strong>struggling with debt<\/strong>, and IVAs are only one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>IVAs are designed to be used for unsecured debt, such as credit cards  and loans that are not secured against any assets. Common consumer  debts are therefore the main types that IVAs are intended for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re struggling with <strong>secured debt<\/strong> such as \nmortgages or secured loans, an IVA may therefore not be the right option\n for you. However, if you have both secured and unsecured debt, you may \nwant to consider using an IVA, or another measure, for the unsecured \ndebt. If you are \nat the stage where you cannot manage your debt payments any longer, you \nshould speak to an Insolvency Practitioner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An IP will look at all of your debts, and advise you as to what \noptions will help both secured and unsecured debts. IVAs are pretty \nflexible, and although they are not strictly intended for secured debts,\n your IP may be able to come up with a plan that includes an IVA along \nwith other measures to get you in the clear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have multiple debts of different types, it is likely that a \nnumber of different measures may need to be used to get things under \ncontrol.
